How it Works

Wireless Desktop enables you to securely access and manage your office e-mail, files, contacts, and calendar - in real-time. You can also use Wireless Desktop to manage your existing Internet (POP3) e-mail and personal contacts. The Desktop Assistant and the Wireless Desktop server are the core elements that enable you to have a remote control for your office desktop.
Desktop Assistant
The Desktop Assistant is a small application that is downloaded to your office desktop computer. Data is accessed in real-time on request from an authenticated device and never stored outside the corporate firewall. The Wireless Desktop servers retrieve data in real-time from Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes and securely transfers your data to your wireless device. Communication to the Wireless Desktop servers is via standard HTTPS ports. All major proxies and authenticating proxies are supported and Wireless Desktop enables access to the broadest set of possible corporate Internet clients.
Delegating
The Desktop Assistant includes a multi-user access model that increases the mobility options for laptop users or "road warriors." In situations where you sometimes disconnect (or turn off your computer) from the corporate mail server, you can remain connected to your information by delegating to up to 5 colleagues who can enable an alternate/backup connection to the mail server on your behalf. The Wireless Desktop Server requests and delivers information between the Desktop Assistant and your remote device in real time and without impacting the performance of your corporate PC or network.
Alerts
The Desktop Assistant contains a notification engine that alerts you via Text Messaging Service from Rogers Wireless when important e-mail messages arrive in your Inbox. Use the Wireless Desktop Web site to configure and enable your corporate e-mail notifications based on message Sender, Priority or Subject. When the Desktop Assistant connects to the Wireless Desktop service, alerts are sent to your wireless phone for any messages that meet the alert filter criteria that you established.
Access Files
Wireless Desktop provides real-time mobile access to files residing on your remote desktop PC or on your remote network.
Open documents to read or edit.
Attach files to e-mail messages
Note, if you edit a file that you have accessed remotely, you can not resave the revised file back to your remote desktop PC, but can save it to the computer you are working at. File access is only available when using a desktop PC, laptop or Pocket PC.
Security
Wireless Desktop protects the security of your and your delegates' data, as well as the security of your corporate network using the following measures:
Your e-mail, calendar and contacts are accessed in real-time and never stored outside your corporate firewall.
Your corporate domain credentials are never transmitted outside of the corporate firewall and are only used by the Desktop Assistant to establish a logon to the corporate mail server.
When you delegate a colleague to provide a connection to the corporate mail server on your behalf, he/she does not have access to your data nor your network or Wireless Desktop sign in credentials. All data is encrypted and protected by a private key.
When composing e-mail using Wireless Desktop, all outbound messages are encrypted and securely routed to the Desktop Assistant for sending via your secure corporate local-area network.
Standard outbound-only ports are used to access data. Wireless Desktop does not create any 'holes' in corporate firewalls that can be scanned by malicious intruders.
Your Wireless Desktop password is stored on the Wireless Desktop servers using non-reversible encryption algorithms.
