A personal video recorder has a hard drive in it just like your home computer. As you are watching a program the personal video recorder records the program onto its hard drive. If the phone rings, the baby cries, or you just need to take a break, you can pause your program, without missing anything. While you're away, the personal video recorder will continue recording the program on its hard drive. When you return you simply hit play and you can continue watching your program from where you left off.
A PVR also lets you build your own TV channel. With the press of a button you can record your favourite shows every time they air. No more searching for a blank video tape or worrying about recording over something.

Can I record one show and watch another at the same time?
Yes. Thanks to the Dual Tuner, you can watch one program while recording another, or enjoy picture-in-picture on any television. Compare that to the single PVR tuner offered by some satellite providers, which leaves you stuck watching what you're recording.
