President and Chief Executive Officer
Rogers Communications Inc.

Mr. Rogers is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rogers Communications Inc. ("RCI"). A true pioneer in the communications industry, Mr. Rogers has been involved at the start-up stage with numerous ventures in broadcasting, cable television and telecommunications, championing service and innovative engineering throughout.

While still articling with Tory, Tory, DesLauriers & Binnington, Mr. Rogers created Rogers Radio Broadcasting Limited, which acquired the nation's pioneer FM station, CHFI-FM. Mr. Rogers blazed the trail for FM stereo broadcasting with CHFI in 1960 and then founded CFTR-AM in Toronto in 1962.

Mr. Rogers won a license to create a cable company in March, 1967. Through a reverse takeover in 1979, Rogers Cable TV Limited acquired control of Canadian Cablesystems Limited. A year later, Rogers purchased Premier Communications Limited, which almost doubled Rogers' cable subscribers, thereby making Rogers the largest cable television company in Canada. However, Rogers cable holdings were not limited by national boundaries. Between 1979 and 1982, RCI acquired and built several cable television systems in the United States. In March of 1989, RCI completed the sale of its U.S. cable television interests for C$1.581 billion.

Mr. Rogers has also made significant contributions to wireless communications in Canada. He was a founding shareholder of Cantel Inc. (brand name: Rogers Wireless), which commenced service in 1985 to operate a national cellular telephone network in competition with the established telephone companies. Today, RCI is a major, diversified force in Canadian telecommunications operating in three divisions:

Rogers Media Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc., and its subsidiaries including Rogers Broadcasting, which owns 46 radio stations across Canada; OMNI television with stations in Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba; Rogers Sportsnet; The Shopping Channel; Rogers Publishing and Rogers Sports Entertainment which owns the Toronto Blue Jays and the Rogers Centre.

Rogers Wireless Communications Inc., a 100 % owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc., has more than 5.5 million wireless subscribers, is Canada's largest national wireless company and is the country's only carrier operating on the world standard GSM/GPRS technology platform. It offers a full range of wireless communication services including voice, data and paging to consumers and businesses across the country.

Rogers Cable and Telecom., a wholly owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc. is Canada's largest cable network operator and provides high quality entertainment, information and communication services to approximately 2.3 million customers in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. Its hybrid fibre-coax network is ideally suited to delivering interactive products and services that require significant bandwidth, such as its high-speed Internet access service. Rogers Cable also owns and operates 274 Rogers Video stores.

Mr. Rogers earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto in 1956, and his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1961. He was called to the bar of Ontario on April 13, 1962. In addition to his formal education, Mr. Rogers has been awarded numerous honourary degrees including:

  1. Doctorate of Science, Clarkson University of Potsdam, New York, May 1989;
  2. Doctorate of Law, University of Victoria, BC, June 1990;
