Success Stories White Hat Inc.

At the speed of wireless

WhiteHat looks after IT security for large and mid-sized corporations. "We live in a world where bad things can happen to good companies very quickly," says founder and CEO Rosaleen Citron. "That means we need to get each other's attention right away. It's absolutely critical to what we do."

Usually, it's a BlackBerry that keeps the WhiteHat team in touch. If Citron sees a "critical" code message during a meeting she quickly extricates herself. Product support specialists help the support desk handle emergencies, even if they are on a customer training course.

Everyone works in the "here" and now whether here is driving up a mountain in Sicily or "now" is 1:00 a.m. Recently, WhiteHat's software developers came up with a design idea while in a nightclub. The team leader called Citron, then e-mailed the plans with his BlackBerry. She gave the go-ahead on the spot. Earlier in the week, partner Leanne Bucaro was on business in Italy, but used her BlackBerry to keep in close e-mail contact with the office." We move at the speed of the Internet says Citron. Without wireless we could not operate."

The management group chose Rogers Wireless services for the flexibility of features and Rogers' proven ability to add innovations ahead of the curve. BlackBerry voice and e-mail packages, for example, offer all the advantages of voice, wireless e-mail and mobile Internet on one- or two- year service agreements. With roaming arrangements over 140 countries, Rogers Wireless customers can also take their BlackBerry with them while travelling internationally.

For Citron, however, one of the best contributions of wireless technologies during WhiteHat's blistering spurt of growth has been creativity. "At the pace we run at, we often get our best ideas when we're away from our work environment," she says. "With wireless, an idea never has to wait."

Rogers Wireless continuously invests in its network quality to extend and improve its reach, for example, completing a national roll out of GSM/GPRS coverage at 850 MHz in December 2003 for better rural and in-building coverage.
