PORTABLE FAQS
Top questions we've had about the service:
| Q. | Is this the same service as Hi-Speed Internet Faster from Rogers Cable? |
| A. | Business Portable Internet from Rogers is up to 50 times the speed of dial-up. It's a high-speed Internet service with the innovative feature of service portability. |
| Q. | Is it easy to set up? |
| A. | Yes, you can set up the service in just minutes. There is no technician to wait for and only one connection from the modem to your computer. Plug it in and you're ready to go! After you place your order (request more information or call 1-866-579-7215), we will ship your modem kit to you. Once you receive the modem, call our Customer Care at 1-800-934-3225 to activate the modem. | Q. | How long do I have to return my modem kit in the event I cannot receive coverage? |
| A. | In order to be eligible for the 30-day money back guarantee, you have 30 days from your activation date to return your Self-Installation Kit and all included materials. Once we receive your modem in its original condition, we'll ensure you're not billed for the modem or the service. |
| Q. | How secure is the connection? Is it more secure than Wi-Fi? |
| A. | Your Business Portable Internet connection is very secure. That's because Rogers' wireless technology uses OFDM transmission protocol, featuring a design standard that includes secure wireless data transmission and user authentication. Only Business Portable Internet modems will work on our wireless broadband network. Wi-Fi operates on unlicensed 2.4GHz frequencies, making it vulnerable to scanning and packet interception. Rogers operates at licensed 2.5GHz frequencies. Licensed frequencies and OFDM make for a very secure connection. |
| Q. | Can I use my Business Portable Internet connection in more than one location? |
| A. | Sure, you can connect to the Internet in more than one location. Just plug it in and go online anywhere within the Business Portable Internet coverage area. This means you can move it from city to city, around the city you're in or around your office, work site or home. You can even extend your service to multiple users throughout your office. The Business Portable Internet modem works with standard router and wireless access point equipment to create a local area network. Using a router or wireless access point, multiple users can be online at the same time. The only additional cost you'll pay is for the purchase of networking equipment. |
| Q. | What issues could impact my ability to receive Rogers signals? |
| A. | You must be within a Rogers Business Portable Internet coverage area to receive a signal from the Rogers network. It is rare, but possible, to be within the coverage area but not be able to receive a signal due to unusual geography or to be within the coverage area but not adequately receive signal due to unexpected circumstances. Our set-up guide will instruct you on what to do to ensure you get the best possible signal. In the event you are unable for whatever reason to receive coverage in your desired location, you can return the modem and you will not be charged for the service. |
| Q. | Why might I not be able to receive the service? |
| A. | The top reasons for not being able to receive the Business Portable Internet Service include: 1. As your modem's distance from the cell site increases, the signal strength decreases. Customers who are located too far away from the base station may have difficulty receiving a signal. While we have many cell sites in our coverage areas, it's possible some locations are simply too far away to receive a strong signal. 2. Certain types of structures and building materials can prevent signals from penetrating to the interior. Windows help to allow the signal into a room. 3. Location within the structure can either help or impede reception. Connecting the Business Portable Internet modem to a PC in a room with windows and/or on a higher floor has a better chance of receiving service. |
| Q. | What if my computer is set up in one room but the wireless signal is stronger in another? |
| A. | Not a problem. With optional accessories called power line adapters or a wireless router, you can set up the Business Portable Internet modem anywhere in the house, regardless of where your computer is located. Power line adapters use existing electrical wiring to extend the signal from the modem to your computer, without having to run cables through your house. Wireless routers allow for multiple computers to share the same connection, wherever they are located in your home or small office.Click here for more information on accessories. |
